Now that fire bans have been lifted, we're able to cook over the campfire at one of our favorite boondocking sites. Food cooked over the fire just tastes better! Does anyone else do this?

Absolutely cook over an open fire. My grandson wanted a hot dog before I started the real meal.

I love cooking over open fire.... Get a good stick and that is all you need.

I have a funny story about one camp out Hubby and I went on. I had been REALLY working hard, so was he. I needed a break. So we went to a not far campground in the truck. Just a pick up truck with a canopy and air mattress. He got a fire going really quick and I got out the ice chest and food box. He set up the chairs and we both plopped down and started to relax. For dinner I without getting up opened the ice chest and got out the shrimp wrapped in bacon. opened the bag of salad and paper plates. He woke up and stuck 2-3 shrimp on his stick and I got 2-3 shrimp on my stick. The fire cooking bacon smelled sooo good. We had shrimp and some kind of french bread and salad and that was dinner. I got the 2 smallish apples I had, and we put them on our sticks and roasted them. Peeled and covered them in cinnamon sugar and roasted them again and again our camp smelled so good! The whole time we were doing this neither one of us got up from our chair. Now this was a packed campground and the sites were close together. Right across from us was a couple of Big, nice RVs. And they shared a covered table space. They had a big fancy meal going lots of I am sure yummy things. Lots of dishes. The ladies got up and reminded the guys that it was their turn to do dishes. Somewhat loudly. About that time, I told Hubby to remember to do dishes. We both put our paper plates in the fire, and I handed him the knife to wipe off with the wet cloth I had prepacked. We closed the ice chest, and he said "Ok all done." About that time I turned and saw the guys with their arms full of dishes and they gave me the grumpiest look. Hubby and I had eaten very well and not once did either of us get our butts out of our chairs.

We don't often eat like that because I like to cook, and we have had enough meals with a ton of dishes, but that time. Like I said we were just in need of a brake. The forks were plastic and yea I know should not burn them but that day we did, and the sticks came off our apple trees and they got burned too.

We both enjoyed the quiet night of watching the fire. We both enjoyed doing almost nothing. And I am sure the folks across the way slept better than we did. it was just an air mattress in a pick-up truck.

My best beef stew is made over open fire in a cast iron dutch oven, nothing better

When we hosted on a forest road years ago. I took it upon myself to make keyhole fire rings on the designated sites. I used ours religiously! It is to bad that people who know everything, haven't got a clue!
