Question Custer State Park

As I head west after the Oshkosh AirVenture airshow I have two weeks or so to get to Denver. I've heard Custer State Park is a good place. I'm open to any suggestions on places to stay, things to see and do, etc.

We toured the park about 12 years ago, and there are more rv parks in the area now, so see what would appeal to you. We both really thought touring the park very worthwhile. All the places where both Indians, and Custer’s men died are marked. It is sort of eery.However, it is easily done in a day, so I would advise just two nights total. If you have not been, the Mount Rushmore area, and the Badlands, are really interesting.
I was thinking of the Liitle Big Horn Battle area, good to do when in the general area. Judy

Custer State Park, Badlands National Park, the Black Hills, etc. are all good places to see. Keep in mind the Sturgis Rally is 5Aug to 14Aug.

We are currently next door to Custer State Park at Custer’s Gulch CG. We drove down from Elkhorn Ridge, about a two-hour drive. We haven’t discovered everything here yet, but there are the obvious ones like Rushmore and Crazy Horse.

We had to drive through the state park to get here, and I was really impressed with it. There are a few lakes and multiple campgrounds. I saw what looked like a 40’ motorhome parked in one.

Elkhorn Ridge is in Spearfish, and minutes from Deadwood and Sturgis. Deadwood is very touristy, but we really enjoyed it. It’s been on my bucket list forever.

Thanks. I'll be at the AirVenture airshow in Oshkosh, WI the last week of July then pushing west so first two weeks of August are my South Dakota travels.

Neal, the Sturgis Bike Rally is during your time span so its doubtful you can find space available at any RV park within 100 miles of Custard.

I was able to book into Badlands KOA 8/3-7 and Custer's Gulch 8/7-11 so I can checkout the area a few days. Have to arrive Denver 8/15 so saved some time to see north CO enroute as well.

When at Custer’s Gulch, take your toad on the Needles Hwy. Not doable in the coach. Very scenic, and fun. Judy
