I’m not sure if Neal wants to move this to another area but we’ll start out here. We have been on the road for about 5 days working our way slowly from the BC interiour to Quebec City Quebec. I thought this board was a good place to track our journey. Our first night was in Revelstoke and the next day we went to see the Revelstoke Dam. Pictures are limited for security reasons but we got a good one outside of Jarvis (our Tesla) in front of the Dam. Coincidentally this is the dam that feeds the grid to our little town about 160 kilometres away so Jarvis got to meet the source of his electrons.

I would recommend the tour to anyone. Our lady who conducted the tour was very knowledgeable. It was 7 bucks and lasted about an hour and 15 minutes. This dam has been finished for about 39 years but they still have capacity for one more turbine as needs grow. They estimate that is probably still 10 years away. They added a turbine about 10 years ago so now there are 5.

When I was in high school our grade 12 glass toured the Mica Dam which is about 140 kilometres upstream. Pretty cool.

We’ll post some more a little later.

We stayed in the lamplighter campground in Revelstoke. Good experience. Lots of rental RV’s there mostly Germans, Dutch and French. Nice folks. There was also an accordion player. Just kinda made it a memorable stay.

There is also a train museum in Revelstoke as it is and always has been a railway town. Lots of history there.

Revelstoke is worth at least a 2 day stop. And if you are a hiker or biker even more. We were there 3 nights and we would go back for another 3. But there is more to see out there and we need to keep moving. On to Golden for a couple days. We’ll post pics then.

Grand Coulee in Wa is another good one for a tour.

Its impressive and they also do a laser light show on the dam at night during the summer. The Spring Canyon CG is close enough to the dam and far enough away from town to be a nice experience.

Not much to add today. We came thru Rogers pass yesterday. Long slow grind up the hill as there are not a lot of passing lanes and many of them are short. We just hung out with the semis in the right lane. We stopped at the visitors centre and took in the history. There is also a museum for a nominal fee. Good bathrooms. They had a BC hydro fast charge station there so we took advantage of that. According to my receipt we were there for 23 minutes and cost us 5.07. It’s only a 50 kw charger so maybe don’t plan on it as an enroute charger but rather as a convenient concurrent event while costing the museum. I think we took on 18 kWh in total. There are some amazing picture ops there but we kinda hit bad weather so we took one shot of the car at the charger and headed for the little museum.

The trails were still closed (and snow covered) so no hiking shots.

Couple of stops to mention. The first is actually a stop we made a few days ago that I forgot to mention. The last spike at craiglachee was an interesting stop if you are a history buff like us. It’s the point where the CPR finished the east west connection if the railway. Interesting reading and nice spot for a break. Good parking for any sized RV or RV truck combo. Here’s a quick shot for reference.

We’ll hopefully have a few more interesting shots the next time. We are currently in Golden. Here for a couple nights and then on to points east.

Our next stop was Golden BC and we stayed in the municipal campground. The prose are it’s on the kicking horse river and has great views of the Selkirk mountains. If you like trains you’ll love this place, and if you don’t, not so much. If you can get the furthest sites away from the office as they are the nicest. Some sites are serviced. All are good.

There is lots of good hiking both in the campground and at various locations in the area. The town is kinda cutesy and has lots of history. It also has a covered bridge built by craftsman all over the world including apprentices from Pennsylvania and New York. It was built in 2001.

Here are a few pics of our stay.

One more quick entry. We stopped at field. An old Railway town between Golden and Banff. We did some opportunity charging while we visited the town. It’s worth a walk though. Some great old architecture. Now it’s just mostly bed and breakfasts that deal with overflow from Lake Louise skiers in winter and Hikers in summer. Worth a visit. Population 170. Kind of eclectic. It’s a national parks town now.

The charger is a BC Hydro 50 kw unit. Kinda slow. 21 cents a minute so not cheap. But again, opportunity charging is handy. Here’s a few pics. Beautiful area. Great river hiking.
