Dash Cam for Motorhome

I have been spending a fair amount of time reading about dash cams that can be used in a Class A coach and I am confused. Many say they are the best, i.e., Rove, Redtiger, Elektrikat, etc. Online reviews may be unreliable. Curious what the RVForums' members are using. Thanks in advance!

I'm a big fan of Blackvue, been using them for years. I highly recommend something that's always recording, not just triggered by some event, and also 4K so you can actually read a license plate if needed. How many times have we seen blurry security footage on TV and only thought if they had 4K or better!

I use the single channel (forward looking camera only) in my RV. I liked it so much I got the 2 channel (forward and rear cameras for my toad). I suggest not spending money on any of these cameras that include a SD card but instead find the compatible cards and put the largest size your budget allows as having a history of video could be crucial to finding what you may be looking for.

I’ve had Rove since 2019 and does a good quality recording. My primary use is for video documentation of an accident or incident while traveling.

Where do you get switched power for the camera? I used the 12v power in the old RV but the power port on the new one is used for GPS.
I'd like to hard wire it in wire ignition switched power.

Adding 12V is easy as it's all over the place in these coaches. My camera is always on so it's recording while parked too. I added a 12V receptacle on the lower left of the dash so I can pull it if I need it powered off.

I have a Garmin Dashcam 45. Purchased in 2017 and it still records very well. I went with a Garmin simply because I have two GPS units manufactured by them. It saves video in segments by minutes so it's easy to find a scene (as long as you know the relevant time). It's pretty easy to use and very reliable. I can't say if it's is the best or worst but it does well for me. It is switched from the Coach to the Jeep depending on what vehicle is bein used. When in the Coach is has a "High Mount" setting. I just purchased a Viofo VS1 and hooked it up for my drive down South. Haven't reviewed any footage so can't give you a review but I have it plugged into my cigarette lighter outlet right now. Will hardwire it next month when I have a little downtime and leave some slack so I can adjust a bit as needed.

There are a bunch of YouTube videos out there that show different dash cams and a bit of watching them may at least give you an idea of what features are most important to you.
