Yes, that is the DEF head. Here is what it looks like with the box it is shipped in. The current generation is Gen 7.

How can I tell which generation DEF head was recently installed in my coach?

To my knowledge, the units themselves contain no markings to determine that. I would place a call to Spartan and ask. They may have the records to answer your question. I do know that Gen 7 has been on the street for a couple of months now.
