Filled up today at The Grand Casino truck stop in Shawnee, Oklahoma. $5.44/gal. For any smokers out there, Marlboro Reds $99.09/ carton.

Is $99.09 a good deal? You gotta have one hell of an addiction to pay ~$100.00 for a carton of cigarettes.

The Houthis have now captured several islands in the Bab el Mandeb route into the Red Sea and the Suez Canal. $6.00 diesel is going to look like a bargain in a month or two.

Ukraine targeting diesel supply in Russia is apparently an issue as well. Not politics, it's just world events that are and will continue to cascade into our diesel prices probably for time to come. Yes, my winter trip will be reconsidered if we push much farther north of this. Pleasure, not required.

Fuel price manipulation impacts how people vote in elections. Fuel prices went high right before the 2008 election. You have to ponder this runup's timing. Not politics, just pattern recognition.

Go on your pleasure trip anyway, no matter the price, if supply is readily available at the destination. No reason to become a hostage to current events...

I'm not concerned about supply or being able to find diesel, it's what am I willing to pay for go on a RV trip. Maybe I'll just need to adjust the destination from either South Florida or AZ to something half the distance, like AL, etc. (coming from VA).

I've certainly enjoyed this current trip which comes to an end after my next stop. We'll see how things go.

Yes, go a shorter distance perhaps. The Fort Walton Beach area will be into the less sweaty shoulder season soon. Kids back in school, no hurricane right now, the "Redneck Riviera" as we call it would be excellent for relaxing and letting Elli romp and play in the gulf waters!

Depends on your overall perspective…

4,000 mile trip at 8 mpg is 500 gallons. $6 a gallon is $3k. Even at $8 a gallon it is $4k.

So 1k more for a winter long trip overall is not much of an impact. Personally, do it while you can as long as the cost diff is still doable.

Most of us have more money then years. We are all gonna die by AI by the end of the decade, live now accordingly
