Thanks, R O! That's a good perspective. What was enlightening about seeing both of those fender benders was that the "turning across" scenarios often present a high chance of misjudging the other vehicle's entry into the space. One turner lacked a green arrow at an intersection light, other was at a pull out to cross an island divider on a divided 4 lane and just misjudged the dynamics of someone that curved across into where he was coming out from.

(I have been riding motorcycles a long time and try to internalize a better plan of preventative action after seeing others make these mistakes.)

Truth is different when it comes to cameras. Just because your dash cam recorded it, that doesn't mean you watched it happen.

My guess is letting an officer view your camera,and have the video makes him the one responsible for chain of custody, not you.

In regards to offering the video &/or allowing an officer to view it; in my case, at least, the video resides on a mini SD card. The only way to view it is to access it through the camera's phone app or connect the card, through an adaptor to my laptop----Neither of which I wish to expose to an officer!

If the police know you have a recording of an accident they can seize it as evidence.

Both of the dash cams I have used have screens and can play back the one minute long date/time code titled files. I did actually once play back a rear facing dash cam recording at a security checkpoint after a tailgater who was making his agressive run through the commute traffic told the guard at the badged personnel entry point that I was the problem, he having arrived before I got there after him. The video put an immediate end to his attempt to make a false claim.

The mod to my Colorado commuter truck that is finishing an adhesive cure today fleshes out the mirror overlay dashcam that provides recording front and rear and has a large display screen that supports playback.

If I carry one of our usb battery packs with a type c cable, the detachable dashcam can be walked around to easily show law enforcement what it recorded.
