It’s probably easy to change out but I’m concerned with re moving the bar to cover it. The padding on my door travel bar is wearing out. What have you done to replace yours?

I removed the foam once it started looking bad. The handle was fine for many years without a cushion, and wasn't slick, etc. More recently, I upgraded to an extended handle (direct replacement in my case). This is a bit off topic but I highly recommend this handle. We have a 5th wheel camper that is well off the ground. The handle provides stability to us as we get older, and to others who aren't as mobile.

My main concern is if there is a spring inside or any special steps I’m not aware of or do I just remove the 2 bolts in each bracket?
