Question Engine light on

I have my coach at the paint and body shop to fix the minor fender bender from January.

They called and said yellow engine light is on. A month ago, it came on and FL replaced one of the NOS sensors.

I have an appointment at FL this week to look at it, and the FL RV shop I use is 150 miles away. Is there a way to get the fault code or do I need a reader to plug in? Any suggestions for an inexpensive reader is appreciated.

I would like to know what the code is before I make the drive to determine if I should even drive it that distance.

Some take special readers. I know my Mahindra tractor only works with a Mahindra reader. Call them and find out. If not Wal-Mart sells them. May not be able to reset, but you can get the code.

FL can guide you through it which is going into the Diagnostics area if I recall correctly. It won't mean anything to you but you can read it to FL and they can tell you what it means.

I had this happen last April.
Here is my response to a post from IRV2. It worked and has not shown up since.

I had something similar happen last weekend. Threw an amber MIL light on the dash and the famous SPN 1081 error code in the diagnostics. Mine added a FM1:90C code too. I spoke with FL this morning and of course they recognize the 1081 code, but not the 90C code. Go figure. They did say that be as long as the MIL or a Check Engine is amber and the coach is running normally, not to worry about the amber light. Their words, not mine. I worry about any unusual light on the dash. They also said that after 4 - 8 "key turns", the light should reset itself and described a "key turn" as an engine start (after the "Wait to Start" light goes out as described above by DS Don) and the coach is driven 20 miles or so. I'll see how that works on a trip in the next couple of weeks. If that does not reset the light, our coach goes in to FL for the 6-month service at the end of June and can be reset then. I'll report back with my findings.

I see you're in Orinda. Is the 150 mile drive to Sacramento Truck Center? Lawrence and Theresa and their team are wonderful.

I had my first amber light at the beginning of my current trip, googled the code, called FL, it was a DEF undervoltage hit I think, they said it should clear after 4 or so legs, and it did.
