We were recently in Glacier National Park and I noticed an EV charging station at the St Mary's Visitor Center on the park's east side. I guess the reason I noticed is there were 3 EV's in line to use the free charger. I understand the rule is 2 hours max when others are in line. I wonder who is paying for these free charging stations.

it depends. Are you sure they were free? Based on the time limit they are not fast chargers either probably. That’s a long wait depending on your remaining charge when you pull in and get connected. When I had a Tesla connected to a 220 outlet at my house it would take anywhere from 4-6 hours to get back to 100%. So waiting there might be futile depending on where the next fast charger is. Some chargers will 2x the charge cost if you are there longer than the max time allowed. Who pays? Depends who the charger company is and the arrangement with the park.

The sign says "Free, 2 hour max charge time if others waiting".
I have to assume free means the government is paying.

government cannot spend without first taking from the citizens.

That means all of us out here, who DO NOT have EV's, are paying for the power to recharge a vehicle that pays no road use taxes for their "fuel".

Just sayin'.....Roger

Depends on the state. Been reading that some states are requiring electric cars to pay a higher registration or a separate annual tax for road use.
