It’s proportional, I’m not in Florida, actually in North Carolina, but our first big storm. Someone at the Park said we should close our slides.

Is that really a good idea? We are parked between a Class A and a bumper pull unit. Should we close our slides?

It all depends 1) if you have slide toppers, and 2) how windy it's going to get.

But more importantly, if subject to a storm, look at your options for shelters, etc. Know your campground and how to handle severe weather.

Thanks for the suggestions. No slide toppers. Weather app says 25 mph wind for tops. We have a grab bag and plan on a bath house for structure if needed.

In some cases slides can catch more wind. though our rig weighs over 46k #, when we are in significant storms, which has only been twice in 3 years, we pull in the slides.

I would suggest it is better to be safe than sorry. 25 MPH is not too severe but why take a chance? We endured Fiona last year when we were in Nova Scotia. We made sure our levelers were down for stability not so much for level as we wanted weight on all of our tires. Slides in (we do have toppers), TV antenna secured, and nothing left outside that could blow away or cause any damage. We moved out of our site to an open space (tail to where we thought the wind direction to be) so no tree could topple over. We came through with no physical damage but it was not a fun experience.

Good luck, stay safe.

We have had wind catch the slide toppers just right and extend them upward. Then they slammed back down when the wind passed.

If it looks like it is going to be real windy we pull in the slides.

Pull them in- no regrets
