I picked up one of these as the people that travel a whole bunch seen to have this or the larger version. I spent all day yesterday with AI(its really not that good) learning about file types and converting Gmaps etc. The bottom line was the 795 would not read the files, even when converted and installed into the installed memory. The 64G card I have is a brick it seems, even after getting a long lesson in Fat32 and programs to force the format as my WIn10 won't do more then 32G.....lol. I downloaded at least 5 programs and even paid for one to convert 10 times, to no avail. So, do the members here use Gmaps and print out turn by turn directions and painstakingly enter them into your GPS? Any tips from the guru's of gps travel would be welcome.

I use InRoute for planning (Apple only) that I can export the gpx files from.

Garmin has a drive app that does real time traffic to the gps it is paired with.

I transfer the gpx file through drive and it loads to the gps.

Any planner that can export a gpx file should be able to be loaded to the GPS through the drive app.

InRoute does planning taking into account weight, height, etc.

Struggled with getting the map into Drive. Did not see that Drive would enhance the 795 experience. I was trying to free up my phone for other duties. I don't have Drive on my PC it has Garmin express. This seems useless except to update. Will go back to trying what you mention when I get home from this trip.

Hello. I’ve been using and beta testing the large RV units for years. My current model is the 1095 and is an excellent all around GPS.
I run all trips through RVTRIPWIZARD and use the Garmin as a backup.

That said, I used to use BaseMap but it became a hot mess that was no longer supported.

But, I can tell you the best way for bringing maps into any Garmin product has been the .gpx format. Being universal, pretty much all programs will export and import that format.

BTW, I do all my gps work on a Mac.

Yeah, the drive app does real time traffic etc.

Not sure if you can export a gpx from the maps you are using for planning.

I used a converter to go to gpx and got it into the SD card and it would not read. I moved it to the onboard memory and it would not read. I tried to change it from a trkpt or whatever to a rte....no go.

My 795 will not read the sd card or the gpx files
