I didn't say it was. But at the very least they are co-conspirators. I am boycotting Loves as well. I don't know why anybody would buy fuel at Loves without the open roads card. If I can't pull into a Loves truckstop and not know I am getting a competitive fuel price, I am shopping elsewhere.
If the station does not show on the OR app, it either not a participating station, or its discount is less than $0.05. Even though Loves is a hometown company, I would not use them without a discount card (always outrageously priced). With a discount card is a different story - assuming the discount price is competitive, in general they are usually newer, cleaner, well marked, and easy in/out when compared to many T/A's There are always exceptions to this rule. I have been having good luck at Mavericks lately being best price, new, clean, etc.

OSU, I have been virtually a cheerleader for the Loves brand for years. I remember getting those huge pieces of jerky out of the plastic canisters and them getting weighed to see how much it cost. But those were the days of the Loves country stores. Those days are mostly gone. We still have two of the country models in Marlow, a town of about five thousand. Now days we have Loves travel stops. Completely different model. I guess I am getting old. I expect a vendor/supplier of any commodity to present their best price up front. I admit that is pretty naive these days. I despise just about any and all apps while my company has built one for our customers and our convenience. It is not a sales tool but a way for our customers to access a customized database of their equipment we have serviced. I am getting way off track. I better quit.

And I agree on Maveriks. Allsups and quik trip have been beneficial as well.

Just signed up and did a bit of deep dive so I could help my comrades. Here are the bullet-points from my conversations with their customer service as well as co-founder.

I'm basing my questions and opinions from the OpenRoads (OR) app.

Brace yourself, and have a barf-bucket handy...these are the prices (4/6/26) in Southern Calif on OR vs. GL:

  • Not seeing markedly better prices than OR. And GL is still new and adding stations.
  • I like the various methods of payment; easier than OR.
  • App is just “ok”; I much prefer the Route Search in the OR app to see fuel along your route.
  • Company is in San Clemente; Support was in Georgia and it took them over 10 minutes to answer.
  • Referral Code is provided AFTER your first transaction.
  • I’m not sure if the juice is worth the squeeze at the moment, but I’ll definitely multi-track it for a while.
  • They are more transparent with pricing as they waive all fees if you PRE-FILL/PRE-AUTH your wallet. They charge the 2% fee for credit cards and the app will show that to you at the actual station.
  • The payment system is contact-less, so just like OR, you don’t need to go inside or swipe a card at the pump. The app will generate secure auth codes, with your max limit, for you to prevent fraud.
  • They’re reworking their route system so it will give you the full list of stations, rather than only ones where you “may need to re-fuel”.
  • Their rewards, honestly, for us really won’t mean much since we just don’t go through as much fuel as a trucker…which is the focus of their company.
