Had a residential type 5th wheel for a few years and now thinking about a return to RVing. We have cats and motorcycles that we want to bring along for the journey. Have seen the Canyon Star 3947 and looking to learn all we can before pulling the trigger. But, thinking is running along these lines: A toyhauler for the motos and litter pans. We aren't sure if we might do full time for a year or two... but definitely would like to do a few extended trips, say Alaska for a summer. The Canyon Star is more cramped than a traditional Class A, but nicely built and I think it has enough for our purposes. Initially we thought we would have a TOAD, but the more I looked at that the less I liked it. So, we are thinking we would try it without any sort of trailer/TOAD and see how we can do with the motos and perhaps the occasional Jeep rental.

Our big concerns are: How much we don't know about maintaining a Class A, concerns about size restrictions on roads and campgrounds, and everything we don't even know we need to ask.

Oh, thought I had joined forum called Newmar Owner's Club.... see now that this is in RV Forums in general. I would have written that intro a little differently. It's a Newmar Canyon Star 3947. it's a 40' front end diesel Class A motorhome with a toyhauler floor plan, a 10' garage. Built on a Freightliner chassis.

I guess my number one question is where do I go to learn more about this machine? We've also looked at the Thor Outlaw 38KBs.

Welcome!
Here is a link to a NIRVC video on the Canyon Star, typically their videos are well done and fairly thorough.
