That is an odd mode of sensor failure to have. Meanwhile, the use of screw-on-valve-stem pressure monitoring transmitters comes with the undesirable potential for leak down, since the stem Schrader is held open by the add-on. If the sensor connection leaks, it would defeat the purpose..
Did you have a blowout, or was it perhaps a deflated tire that got shredded after it had simply lost pressure, perhaps from a road hazard puncture? Terrible that the sensor masked the problem.
I have hesitated to install the set of four screw-on-valve-stem tpms transmitters that we bought for the OVR. The OVR uses rubber valve stems and the installed sensors would be protruding beyond the flat of the rim face. The mass on the end of the flexible rubber stem is configured to respond to centrifugal force as a "lollipop". Would have to replace the rubber valve stems with bolt-in metal valve stems to mitigate that bending effect.
Wireless camera on the back helps with lane changes, but there are a lot of boxed cctv cameras left over in our shop, unused, from home security system projects. Easy enough to mount two cameras inboard of the OVR's tandem wheel sets to watch both sides and wire to yet another display in the Ram cockpit.
I always hammer checked duals on the HR P30, looking for a tire losing air, done at the beginning of the day, at stops, end of travel day. Still hammer check all the singles on our current rig, looking for any one that sounds or rebounds different..
After seeing your post, we won't be installing or using the cheap chinese tpms set we bought off Amazon for the OVR. Prefer the ability to look at the rolling tires on camera - with all Schraders remaining closed....
