While being camped in heavy rains in Dutch Star is it better to leave the slide outs extended or put them in? Just wondering how much rain and storm the awning covers over the slide outs can handle.

Rain has not made me think about retracting the slides, wind or snow have. I have been in 45mph with gusts to 60mph and been fine with slides extended. We stayed in coach with ability to retract them if necessary, I do retract them if leaving for extended time for safety.

Snow and ice needs to be removed from slide toppers prior to retracting

For us, the deciding factor is wind and wind direction. Rain by itself has not been a problem for us, but when the wind starts getting under the slide toppers and billowing them up, we pull in the slides and batten down the hatches.

My next rig will have toppers....if you don't, its a PITA to bring that water into the trailer via the slides.

Raise or lower one end of the coach/trailer to get a lot of the water to run off before you bring in the slides.
