Question How early is too early to leave a campground?

I have a long day and want to leave early but I do care, some may not, about my neighbors. I have a diesel which is noisy, air brakes, noisy, opening and closing basement doors, noisy, and the process of leaving a campground in the morning can wake neighbors up. Do you have a time that you will target so as not to wake people up or just leave when you want to leave? I'm thinking 7 AM is probably on the early side but prior to that would be rude. Opinions on early departure etiquette?

Do as much as you can the night before to minimize outside activity. Stow all utilities except electric and stow all camping gear. Car hooked up if possible. If you are as courteous as possible I think 7am is perfectly acceptable.

If you pack up, hook up the tow, bring in the slides and retract the jacks, you could get out pretty quick with minimal noise. If you really want, you could start the coach and air up the night before. You shouldn’t lose much pressure over night. Wake up the next morning, fire it up and you could be on the road in 5 minutes.

Personally I would consider anything before 6am a bit inconsiderate, but if you did all your work the night before and just needed to drive off, I’d not be bothered much by it.

7 o'clock is fine. Besides by the time we stretch in able to move, put our ears in, put our eyes on, put our teeth in, its time to get up anyway.

We pack up the night before, eat breakfast and then shoot for around 8 to depart and we don't let the engine run longer than it takes to air up. We are early risers, so if someone pulled out at 7 - ok with us. We only want to travel maybe 6 hours, so no need to leave too early.

I’ve never been bothered by folks who leave before 7 am. We are all travelers and have goals for where we want to be at the end of the day. If that means you have to leave at 5 am, I’m good with that.

Depending on how tight the spaces are and still the air is, running the engine for an extended period might be an issue but other than that if you pack up the evening before departure anytime after 5-6 a.m. should be OK. I agree that never been bothered by early departures.

I like the idea of airing up the night before. That should eliminate most of the noise in the morning. In regards to what time ... I usually don't start making noise until sunrise.

I like to leave a little later, enjoy my morning, all that. But if i need to get on the road at 4am, I just prepare the night before and then do it. Being as courteous as possible, I don’t fault myself for the occasional transgression - part of life on the road. I also get it when I wake up at 4am because someone else is leaving. It’s obviously for a reason and doesn’t bother me.

There are certainly situations where it's necessary to get on the road really early but rule of thumb for us is 7:00 am. In past years when we were in the boating community that 7:00 am was also the rule of thumb for firing up and pulling anchor.

I am an early bird and start early. What I have done in the past is to notify the neighbors my early departure intentions. Like everyone above I do everything the evening before so all I have to do in the AM is Slides in, disconnect power/water,. start and go. In many cases I leave at 4-5AM when hardly anyone is on the road..

We take it one step further, when possible, on early departures; and disconnect power, water and sewer the evening before to avoid having to open and close compartment doors. Obviously, if we need AC overnight in hot weather, we need to keep power connected but we can do just fine without water and sewer connections. That reduces the amount of potential noise to a minimum.

Engine noise doesn't bother us, but the repeated slamming of compartment doors is a bit irritating at 5 am.

For me, it doesn't bother me - just makes me jealous that I don't have one.

Two toots is only appropriate after 12 Noon, when the unofficial campground cocktail hour (UCCH) officially begins!

You mean there's TWO 7 o'clocks every day???? There's one in the morning too??? My neighbors love me. No way I'm getting up that early to do anything if don't have to. That being said, as long as you're not being a jerk slamming basement doors over and over I think you're OK. Engines don't bother me at all. I think statistically most RV owners are older and they tend to go to bed early and get up early so I doubt you'll bother anyone. I'll sleep right through it..............

I think 7:00 should be okay. It is currently 6:30 am where I'm at

Ditto on the 7:00. I'm retired and like to sleep until dawn. We never leave until at least 8:00, usually later. We're in a park right now that is nice but the spaces are extremely close. I've been awake since 4:45 am when a neighbor beside us fired up their diesel. Dear Lord what time do these people get up? After listening to it run for 15 minutes while they slammed doors, I got up and made coffee. It's been that way every morning here so thankfully tonight is our last night. I'm easy to get along with and I seldom complain about anything, but I also try to think about my neighbors.

Yup. And just when you try to be considerate, you’ll be next to someone who goes to work every morning at 0500 and needs to idle their diesel for a half hour to warm it up.

The “campground” lifestyle has changed this past year, and I’m gonna say that the majority of the parks we stayed at, had mostly “long term residents”aka...it’s a Trailer Park now. Not sure it’ll change anytime soon, sadly. Interesting how the attitudes change, when you LIVE in a campground rather than vacation.
