Heading to Morro Bay in a couple weeks. Leaving from the Sierra Foothills (Nevada City). 41 looks like a direct route off i5, that goes all the way there. Wondering if anyone can comment on the road conditions and whether it's a relatively easy drive. Going to take a couple days to get down there. Never like traveling more than about 4 hours at a time, so I'll be looking for a spot to hang out for the night along the way.

Well...I can comment here my friend. We travel 41 often in our 33 foot Newmar. Although much has been done to improve that road, there are still sections that are two lane, rough, and perhaps curvy. A couple short climbs too. From I-5 to Paso Robles is about an hours drive. You didn't say what you are traveling in so I can't comment about your difficulty, but you'll be fine on that road. Just take it slow and drive at your comfort level. About 25 minutes North of Kettleman City is Harris Ranch. A large hotel / restaurant complex known for their excellent steak dinners 😉 They allow overnighters (RV) in the parking lot. It's well lit and has security. I can't comment about hwy 41 from US 101 to Morro Bay as I haven't driven that road for eons. Enjoy your stay in Morro Bay.

Thanks for your reply. Ours is a smaller 21' Hideout, so it sounds like 41 should be fairly easy. The Harris Ranch looks like a good place to stop, too. There was one other rest stop mentioned near Shandon, but that's almost to our destination.

Be aware that Harris Ranch has closed off the gravel parking lot to the right when you pull in the first driveway so you have to find a spot in the parking lot (second driveway) adjacent to the hotel. If you do not get there early, you will not be able stay there because it fills up quickly. There is a gravel turn out across the street or if you go across the freeway behind the McDonalds and Taco Bell is a street that is easy to access and you can stay there on the street.

Yes...and the rest stop in Shandon is being worked on and was closed last time I drove by...most likely still is. You like Harris Ranch...especially if you're hungry 😊
