As some of you know Twila and I took a 2 month trip to Alaska this spring and had a great time. Well on 11/19/24 I left Tn to head to Fl to see my daughter. Had my mom (93) with me as I was going to drop her off north of Atlanta at my brothers house for Thanksgiving. After that headed south on I75. I keep saying it but I never want to go through Atlanta. What a mess. Anyway I got south of Macon Ga and said enough was enough and stoped for the night. I parked my Rv in front of the registration office and paid for a spot. When I got in the Rv the engine would not even turn over! It was getting late so I quickly went back in told the receptionist that I was going to get a battery before the store closed. Went and got the battery, installed it, the went to start. Now it turns over like a spring chicken, but it will not start. Not even a hint of ignition. It’s now late, raining, the place is closed so I spent the night right there.
Couldn’t really sleep so I took my time to think about it. Fire requires air, fuel, and ignition. I know I had air. Then I thought everything now is electronic so maybe there are some fuses to look at? I download the chassis manual and looked through the fuse panel. I found 3 fuses for ignition stuff and 3 for fuel. The next morning I found a fuse blown on the ignition. The fuses I carry were the wrong type so I stole one from the backup lights and replaced the blown fuse. Went to start and boom I was running and ready to go.
Got just south of Valdosta a pulled over for fuel. When done I started up and got a check engine light. I’ve got a code reader so I plugged it in and it said the #4 cylinder coil pack was bad. So I got online and found a parts place that had one about 1pm in away. I drove there with the Rv running rough, but made it. Got the part, removed the Dog House with #4 cylinder sitting right in front of me. Changed it out, cleared the codes and off I went. Got to Orlando, check and had no code and the battery is fine.
Total cost: $48 dollars for repair. Since labor rates are so high I payed myself $1500 and I’m looking at a new scope for my gun.
