So got up on the RV roof and did my twice yearly upkeep and wash down, then washed the exterior. When I got to the front and while washing the windshield noticed a small dime size chip. Called around and then went online to Safelite. After providing all the info. the system said it would be $145.00 to send someone out. Way too much, but I gave in and scheduled the appt. Then it prompted, whether I wanted to pay now or later, I clicked later ( fortunately). When the invoice popped up, the total was now $190.00. $ 250.00 if I opted in for the revolutionary, proprietary windshield rain guard treatment ( where the tech. wipes on rainx which will last a week). Canceled of course, ordered a diy kit on Amazon and guess I'll do it myself, or try anyway. I suppose the hustle is just the way it is now.

I had a couple chips fixed on my last coach through my insurance with no out of pocket. They would rather fix the chips before they grow into cracks and they have to pay for a new windshield

In 18 + years of RV'ing, I have had chips filled in on my motorhome windshield several times without any hassle from my insurance, Progressive.

Last fall, on one of our last outings to visit the Ford Museum in Michigan, a dump truck passed me on I-75 and threw up a stone that put a good-sized double-star chip in the windshield. I didn't bother with it for the rest of the season.

In early Spring, as we were taking the RV out of Winter hibernation to take it to have new awning fabric installed, I noticed that the windshield seemed to have dropped in its frame. I put a claim in with Progressive to have the window removed and reset. They denied the claim. I called an RV window expert in my area of WNY to see if he could look at the window on my rig while it was at the shop that was doing the awning work, while waiting for the new fabric to come in. He got back to me the next day and told me the window was junk and needed to be replaced! Thousands $$$ he told me.

I asked the guy if he noticed the two-star chips on the driver's side of the window (from the dump truck stone). He told me he didn't notice them, but if the window is chipped, that constitutes a broken window. I called the Progressive adjuster back with that info, and he told me to start a new claim. Five days later, I had a new window installed and Progressive picked up the tab for $3941. Whew.
