A new product has just been introduced that promises to eliminate the mess, oder, weight and misery of dealing with black tanks in RV's. It is the Cinderella Travel Diesel Toilet.

Cinderella-Travel-Diesel-2.jpg

This toilet works basically on the same principle as the compact diesel heaters found in a wide variety of RV's. The difference is all the thermal energy generated is put to work vaporizing solid and liquid waste from a toilet. These toilets have been around for years but never specifically approved for RV use. Many have been powered by propane and electricity. But a diesel fired toilet makes more sense for all types of EV's , including electric EV's because of the energy density of diesel fuel.

Installing one of these toilets in a RV means you can remove the black tank and associated plumbing. The weight savings alone would more than offset the weight of the incinerating toilet and old toilet removed. And it means you will not need to drive around with a heavy black tank sloshing around in the belly until you can empty the tank. Each "flush" of the incinerator toilet generates a fine power that can be emptied once a month from the toilet itself.

For the future the same technology can be applied to boiling and incinerating off the grey water tank content. Same principle: vaporize solid and liquid content.

Bottom line this toilet requires between 150 to 250 ml of diesel per "flush". That means a small 5 gallon tank of diesel located anywhere in an RV will support up to 100 incinerating flushes. Flushes do not have be done immediately. These devices can hold content for several rounds of use before you start the incineration cycle. For an electric RV having a remote 5 gallon diesel tank offers some interesting benefits. The 5 gallon tank can be located anywhere under the RV with no concern of freezing. The toilet will work if only 12 volts is available. If and when they offer an electric version of the same toilet it would take 2 kW of electricity for each flush. So the redundancy of having a small diesel tank for incineration makes sense even if you have a low HV battery SOC.
