CATL, Chinese battery company, is releasing a different battery chemistry Na-Ion that they claim to have perfected. This chemistry has been in the lab for years. For specific applications, if able to be scaled to commercial quantities, may free up more Li Ion for EVs and other purposes where high energy density is required. Possibly could compete with Lead Acid if cheap enough.

An aside, this table also points out the economics of Li Ion vs Lead acid. Cost per KwH/kg and number of cycles.
