One of the most relaxing and enjoyable, least eventful vacation have had. Left 6/9 am, travelled 585 miles to Broken Bow NE, spent the night in our camper on a TS lot WITH Approval, continued on thru Alliance(First Fuel stop) to head N to Custer SD and prearranged campsite at Ft Welikit, EXCELLENT Site.
Tree lined, Shaded, stayed cool even as in a Drought conditions period. Did have some light rains but overall fantastic six nights exiting 6/13 for return home. Made tours of Close By Custer State Park, two trips around Wildlife Loop, trip up Iron Mtn Hwy and Needles Hwy where stopped at Mt Rushmore and Crazy horse monuments, traveled out to Hermosa up to Rapid City, Sturgis(OFF Season) then returned thru Deadwood to camp. Temps varied to Plains side 15-20 degrees warmer than Custer and Black Hills confines. US 385 is being widened from Deadwood to Hill City, a detractor but manageable even with dust and limited passage one lane pilot car conditions for just over 12 miles. Rains came on overnight just prior to trip to Devil's Tower, as rains passed thru of our morning, we left to ride Around those travelling Hwy 16 thru Newcastle and Moorcraft to the Monument, the trip was more distance yet less travelled. Rains had decreased tourist approach to the monument so wait time to get to parking was minimal until we left where was backing up.
Travelled back thru Belle Fourche, Spearfish and Spearfish Canyon, reconnecting to Hwy 85S to Newcastle then back to Camp avoiding US 385. All In All was a Great Week. Even with our Class 8 Truck, campground was quite maneuverable. Our Return was to I-90 to Wall and Wall Drug, then to travel the Badlands Loop back out to I-90 then to Chamberlain to see the Dignity of Earth and Sky Statue at the MO River Rest area. Continued to Nebraska City to top fuel and then sleep over to return home 6/14.
Pines were Pollinating
This is US385 NW of Hill City.
