Question Marking the basement door that contains the Fire Extinguisher?

Thinking about putting a label on the basement door where the fire extinguisher is located. Is this just inviting trouble or is it useful information....? BTW I leave that door unlocked when stopped or camping...

Wow! @Joe Goodxrvn This is a good point. Maybe the idea should be brought up to Newmar, a door for the fire extinguisher that has no lock.

Keeping the basement door unlocked makes the fire extinguisher readily accessible, if needed, and saves the door and lock from damage of a determined thief ...

Maybe you don’t need a door, maybe just a good clamp that won’t drop the extinguisher on the road, but would still allow you to access it quickly. Then you could easily mount one under the bottom of the coach behind the fiberglass, at the front and rear.

when traveling I also keep a med kit in this bay but typically move it to my car when in storage.

What happened to the fire extinguisher that Newmar mounted just inside your entry door?

I assumed 90% of all RVs were sold with these, or at least everyone I have owned came with them. I carry two additional ones (one in the lower storage and one in toad or tow vehicle) in addition with the ones that came with every RV we have owned.

Still there. For me to gain access to the fire extinguisher in the door way takes time, open the lift, get on , get inside, etc... This one is ready to deploy almost immediately.

I am considering one for the tow and one for the bedroom. Both good ideas.

The basement doors on this RV are manual, turn a key to lock and unlock. No fancy buttons...

I am probably a fool at worst or short sighted at best but I only carry three extinguishers - all of which are in the coach at front, mid and rear. My only purpose in doing so is to evacuate safely.
If it’s on fire and everyone is outside, I have no intention of getting involved other than calling the fire dept and my insurance agent. Once the people and pets are out there’s nothing in the RV that can’t be replaced.

I agree with you, once everyone is safe, the RV can roast.

However, the outside fire extinguisher on my RV is for an accidental fire outside the RV or to help another motorist.

Last year in Dallas we passed a fellow towing a trailer that started on fire.
He was on the side of the road trying to beat it down with a blanket...
Needless to say, he was just fanning the flames....
It was his work trailer filled with tools. Replaceable, yes, weeks/months with out tools is lost wages...

As a young Trooper I probably deployed my fire extinguisher every month or so. Arrive to the scene and it didn't much matter if something was just smoking or had flames shooting up 20 feet in the air, I was going to drag that bug sucker out of my trunk and blast away. I soon sound out that anything much larger than a garbage can size fire was hard to control with a fire extinguisher, and anything on or in a motorized vehicle can be really hard to control.
