Ok-i realize this is going to be very subjective and very different answers based on RV lenght, towing vehicle, and the terrain traveled. I'm curious from those who 'pull' and RV how many miles, per day, is a good average to drive without wearing me/wife out? 300?400?500?

A few years ago, we had an older 28 foot travel trailer, heavy as all get out, and pulled it with a Chevy Yukon. I don't think at the time that I fully understood the weight and real towing capacity, and our hitch and weight distribution system was very basic. We managed to pull it, and 3 adults, 2 teenagers, and a toddler, for about 450 miles a day, BUT I was the only driver and I was wiped out at the end of each day, and took a whole day when we got to our destination to recover. I remember pulling in to welcome centers and making everyone get out so I could take a 15 or 20 minute power nap just to keep going. For our trip this year, we are going to limit to 300 miles a day, for our sanity.

i'm SO impressed you made it that far with a toddler- WOW!

Mile limits can be a tad misleading as they don't always reflect time behind the wheel. In some areas it may take two hours to travel sixty miles. Traffic delays and other influences can make a long day behind the wheel yield only 300 miles. I suggest you consider how long you feel good behind your wheel. Is your captain chair comfortable, is your back in good health ? For me I like to limit my actual driving time to six hours or less. I can do more, but then I'm a waste once we arrive. So it's up to you, but just gauging miles isn't the whole story in my humble opinion.

He wasn't half as bad as the two teenagers and my mother-in-law. Thankfully, they and my wife all took care of the boy and left me to the driving part, it was all I could manage. Never again will I drive that far in a single day with an RV of any kind. Unless I'm fleeing from a volcano or something.

I tend to use how many hours a day as my measurement. How many miles I can cover in a day depends on the topography, traffic, roads, weather & where I plan on staying for the night. Probably some other factors I can't immediately recall. Usually around 6 - 8 hours from departure time to where I'll be staying for the night. Very rarely do I go more than 300 miles in a day.

I've gone over 1000 miles in less than 24 hours on a couple different motorcycles in the past to earn my "iron butt" award. So when I look at our 40' diesel pusher with captains chairs built with closed cell foam and covered in ultra leather, and the living room equipped with air conditioning...............well, I think I can go forever! It's a heck of a lot more comfortable than the motorcycles were! And I don't get sunburned or WET either!! So in the RV I tend to head out and not stop much until we get to where were going. That is usually Florida or Gulf Shores, AL. from the Chattanooga, TN area. It's 10 hours to Daytona Beach for us and we do it in one day. It's about 8 hours to Gulf Shores to visit the grand kids and we do it in one day.

The amount of miles depends on you. Are you under any kind of schedule? My wife and I are full timers and sometimes we go 200, 300, 500+ miles in a day. It just depends on what we feel like. Lately we have been staying around 250 to 300 a day.

Thank you ALL-- we've give ourselves 21 days to ensure we have extra time for travel; since my wife drives also we tend to go a little further than just me driving. That's been in a vehicle-with the Ford/travel trailer we will take in all the advice given and 'see how we feel as we go".

Miles are important if you are planning. Figure how many miles you are going total and how long you can take total. How long you plan to spend at the other end. Where you can get reservations, and keep the travel in that range.

We have full time traveled in 38' fivers, 38' gas motorhomes, 43' pushers, and now back to a 44' fiver. We have always planned ahead and depending on what rig we had some campgrounds or State parks could not handle our length. So we set up our fuel stops in advance along with our overnight stops and that dictates how many miles per day.

We have driven as little as 250 miles a day and we have had a handful of days over the years where I will go 600 miles. Generally speaking the perfect distance for us is around 350 miles each day.

IMHO, there are so many variables ranging from personal energy levels, road conditions, weather, traffic and what you are driving. In our coach I can comfortably drive 10 hrs a day but when I borrowed a friends dually pickup to tow our car hauling trailer 45 min away for service, I was exhausted after the 1.5 hr round trip.
