So, we are in the process of purchasing or first RV (older class A)....we have three kiddos, and potentially bringing two dogs. What do I need to know? Rv has furniture, no seatbelts then....what should we expect and what is the law for traveling with kids n critters? Thx!!
First, welcome to RVF; glad to have you here @MakingMemories. Can you help us help you by providing a bit more information on your RV? What is the brand, make and model. Most RVs will have seat belts for the driver and passenger seats, and may well have some hidden seat belts for the sofa. Knowing what you have will help pin down what you may have. Pull up the sofa cushions and look in the crease at the back for tucked-in seat belts.
I don't think you will find many actual "laws" governing traveling with children and pets. Common sense is the order of the day for the most part. You do want to ensure that pets are contained/restrained in some way to prevent them with intereferring with the driver. And, absolutely no pets in the driver's lap while underway. Same with kids.
For proper safety, all passengers should be wearing seat belts whenever possible. If you really don't have any seat belts in the coach, I would suggest consulting a qualified RV shop about whether they can be properly installed. If you haven't already finalized the purchase of the coach, I would be looking into the seat belt situation before continuing. If there really are no seat belts, I would be looking for a different coach.
