So I’ve been planning on building my own teardrop. I wanted to build something for more off-road/hard use, senior management says she wants a real toilet rather than a curtain and a shovel. I’ve come across a family friend who is reportedly selling their 2017 keystone passport 175BH travel trailer for an absolute steal, if the rumored price ($10,000) is correct. In my area I’ve found the same trailer, same year, typically selling for double. With a previous career as a combination fleet/heavy equipment mechanic and DOT inspector; and current training as a residential home inspector I’m pretty confident in my mechanical skills and my understanding of building inspections, but I know very very little about travel trailers. I’ll be towing the trailer with my 2015 Silverado 1500, and am very comfortable pulling/hooking up trailers.

when looking at the trailer:

what issues should I look for?
What questions should I ask?
If purchased, are their any suggested upgrades or issues I should be ready for?

One last question: have you ever considered renting out your RV/travel trailer? Why/why not? For those of you who have, how was/is your experience?

thanks in advance!

rather than spell out all things to 'look for' I"d recomment checking out the RV Nerd(Josh Haylett). He has a great video, YOUTUBE, especially what to look for in purchasing a used RV. One thing I'd add is age of tires, brakes, and bearings.
. Hope that helps...
