I'm retired w my wife to central Idaho after 30 years on the rockpile! It's our 6th year of retirement and we're fortunate our daughter now lives in Boise and the indication is our family could be growing - fingers crossed!
I've been an outdoorsman, woods-worker, and camper all my life though it was tents or pickup truck beds which enabled me to seek out those remote dispersed camp sites only a truck could get to. I'm not much different today although my wife, she's as tough as they come, does deserve some basic comforts these days.
The last few years we've been camping in a Four Wheel Camper which is a pop-up truck camper. It has a huge, comfortable bed and plenty of room for gear, but not much else. It's minimalist for sure and quite challenging as we've given up camping in the summer so it's always borderline wx especially at our favorite destination which is Yellowstone.
We made 4 trips to Yellowstone in 2025. Our favorite pass time is wildlife watching especially wolves. I included a pic of this grizzly that we watched for an hour and then paraded right by our camp site last month. We already have 2 trips booked to YS in April and May 2026, but our favorite time in YS is October.
I've been searching for a -20' trailer, and came upon Peak Mtn Camps and put a design deposit down this morning to see if we can get what we need/want in a small enough package. Key features - high efficiency wood stove and recliners!!!
