What do you tell a diesel thief with two black eyes? Nothing! You already told him twice.

I was checking into a locking fuel door to have installed on my F350 dually. No one seems to make one for a 2021 truck yet. My buddy said he read where the latest thing in California was the diesel and gas thieves are not using a hose to steal fuel/gas anymore but instead they are sliding under vehicles and simply punching a hole in the tanks. Apparently it is quicker and faster, plus you are hidden while filling up your containers.

Guess locking fuel door or locking gas caps won't help anymore.

Skid plates

You might be right, my truck is the FX4 off road so it does have those.

Mine too but you might want to double check. The factory ones can sometimes be pretty pathetic. More like splash guards than skid plates. The FX4 package might also not have provided a fuel tank skid plate. I don’t know. Either way if they aren’t there or aren’t up to snuff, there are beefy aftermarket ones out there that would make someone move along to a softer target.

Don't forget to protect the fuel neck. That's an easy target to slit, stuff in a small line with a pump and drain fuel.

Thiefs are smart..at least in ways to do devious things

I actually crawled under my truck to have a look-see. My tank is protected by factory heavy duty skid plates. I probably could still drill into the tank and drain but it wouldn't be easy.

I guess I'm hoping the thieves are having better luck stealing directly from gas stations by parking on top of their underground tanks and dropping pump hoses down.

Someone who has been doing this as a past time for a while has probably learned which trims have plates. Definitely still possible to drill but I think they’d be unlikely to try when there is a completely unprotected tank one car over.

I stuck a no trespassing sign under mine. I'm safe.

Getting scary to even go to sleep.
