I used to do that - we are selling the house we've lived in for the past 47 years and I have filled a dumpster with all of the stuff I've saved over the years!
and so much of it is good stuff. Just today I needed some fittings to connect a new dishwasher and there they were in my brass fittins bin.
 
Glad no one was sitting on that chair at the time 😱

The difference between "junk" and "stuff":
