This article Public Wi-Fi: how dangerous is it really? does a pretty good job at explaining public Wi-Fi, like what you'd find at RV parks, libraries, Starbucks, grocery stores etc. Basically, if you ensure your web browser shows it's connected using HTTPS, you're not allowing eavesdroppers to see anything to steal.
