I'm a brand-new member to this Forum and own a 2012 Tiffin Allegro Breeze 28BR (shorty). I am the second owner (first time RV owner) and have had for 7 years. Just turned 50K miles. I'm a retired business exec., not a mechanic by any means. But whenever I do need mechanical help for anything major, have to travel long distance since I live remotely on the beautiful Oregon coast. My retractable step just went out. No grinding sound, just a "whirring" sound. Have looked on-line at repair videos and believe I can manage this repair (either replace the motor or the gear box or both), but first I need to know the part numbers of each. Have gotten no response from Tiffin. Would appreciate advice from membership 1) if this repair is above my ability as a novice and 2) where us the best place to shop for these parts and at lowest cost?
Thanks and I look forward to hearing from other members on this inquiry and all other I'll probably have in the future.

Let's hope it is just the motor. Is it a Lippert ? If it is, the job is not too difficult. This is a link that should provide you with some help Kwikee Electric Steps Replace 366043 RV Gear Box Linkage with Motor

I'm not sure if Amazon will sell one but you can buy just a replacement motor from NAPA without the gearbox. It is a Ford power window lift motor for a left front door. Off hand, I can't remember the year or model right now. If it is not the motor or gear box and the teeth on the bracket have worn, I have had a Machine Shop rebuild mine for a lot cheaper that purchasing from Lippert.

Good luck

@Ranger623 can you provide a picture of your steps? Also if you can a picture of the underside which is where the controller and motor reside. Not hard to replace, these steps aren't the best technology.

Thanks very much for the response. Is 366043 the gear box compatible with motor 163669? Got the motor ID from Tiffin but cannot find the gear box number they gave me, nor can I find a cross reference chart matching the motor ID to the gear box ID. My local mechanic quoted over $1k to repair (apparently he wants to retire early).

Are you sure you need the Gear Box? The best thing for us is to see what your configuration is. As Neil suggested, a few photos of your step top side and most important the underside. I think it is rare that the gear box would fail. More often it is the ":gear" on the drive motor that fails. The motor costs just over $200.00 from e trailer and just over $100.00 from NAPA and is held on with three screws. For me, a 10 minute job to change. Here is a youtube link
