I am looking at buying a used windsport 34R I found. The only thing I'm concerned about is that it only seems to have a 30 amp service. With two a/c units I would think a 50 amp service would be better for that unit. I was wondering what would be involved in changing the 30 amp service to a 50 amp. Obviously the plug would need to be changed out and I assume the wire going from the plug to the A/C converter would need to change as well as the converter. Has anyone done something like this? How would I go about doing that and any idea on cost would be helpful.

Thanks!

This is very easy to do. The basic steps are to replace the WFCO power breaker and converter with a 50 amp version and run new 4 conductor wire to the outside power connection, replacing the outlet.

Access will be the determining factor in how easy the overall task is.

I mention WFCO as that is the most common power converter, but you may have another brand.

Looking at the 34R, most I see online are already 50amp. 2 air is a strong indicator that it is already 50amp. Most likely a typo by the dealer when listing

What year? I had a friend who had a 2006 Winnebago (36ft) which had 2 ACs but only 30 amp, so it is possible…

This is a 2024 model Windsport. It looks like the Ford chassis was built in 2/23 and the coach in 5/23. I'm trying to get the Build sheet from Thor...don't know if they keep those around.

The 2024 is a 50amp standard.

This is the plug that's on the side of the coach which is a 30 amp plug. I hope it is a 50 amp service and someone just changed out the plug for some reason. Maybe they only had a 30 amp shore plug where they store the unit and instead of using a dog bone they just changed out the plug???? Weird.

That is, in fact, a 50A connector: you've got L1, L2, and N as the 3 contacts in the center, and the G is on the periphery...

That is a standard 50amp plug.

Thanks guys. The only 50 amp plugs I've ever dealt with had four prongs and that is what I usually see on the pedestals. The 50 amp to 30 amp dog bone I have for emergency use when the 30 amp pedestal outlet is compromised also has four prongs. I guess on RVs they use the twist plug with three prongs which I hadn't seen before.
