Woah! Love this idea and thanks for posting! Do they stay in place w/o a mechanical attachment? Do you take the current screen off? Thanks in advance Jim.
Yes they stay in place, just shove them into the depression and yes the current screen stays off.
 
I did remove the screen but to secure the scouring pads I did apply two dabs of adhesive, the size of a pencil eraser, to each.
 
I was going to check my roof vents, low and behold, no ladder on my DS ? Guess in our excitement we never noticed

I use a rag wrapped around a pistol grip garden hose sprayer to force water down the drain pipe. Easier for me do with a step ladder.
