We just bought a generator/inverter and after going through the manufacturers instructions I found lots of safety admonitions including one to not run the genny in the bed of the truck and 20 feet from a truck or tent or camper and I was wondering if all the experience here could inform me as to the risks involved. I am an auto mechanic and understand about co and co2 and keeping the engine away from where there are people but I would think if the truck with the running genny is far enough away it should be ok. Lots of motorhomes have generators running underneath them without problems. Is the manufacturer being overly cautious or is there something I a missing? Nothing wrong with listening and learning.

I'm sure they say everything to indemnify themselves in case of litigation. Take every precaution, have a working co detector and don't run it overnight while you sleep.
