Does anyone have a suggestion for a good RV routing app? I’m in Winston Salem, N.C. looking for a good route down to Lake Hartwell, S.C. I want to avoid I85 through S.C. Anyone have experience on hwy 64 in N.C.? Thanks!

Hwy 64 is a GREAT motorcycle road to ride. The twisties are a lot of fun on a bike. But in my 40' diesel pusher???? I think NOT!! But it's up to you. Everyone is different.

I have been round and round with various apps. In Septembe, we made a 3000 mile trip and I used GoodSam's Trip Planner, Google earth, and campgroundreviews.com, maybe a dash of others, lol.
I didn't use Trip Wizard, which I do own, because at that time, I hadn't figured it out. The Facebook group helped me out later. I'm using it for long trip planning now, but we're planning a few midweek trips this winter - 2-3 days each, and I use campgroundreviews, com, various newsletters, RVParky, etc. AND always, always, Google Earth.
I'm interested in input from others because I so far have found that I can't use just one app. Trip Wizard does great but it's best for long trips. Same for good Sam trip planner.

If it were me, I'd take 85 up 'til just after the state line and then get off onto 29. I have done this in my38 footer. Then follow 29 until it hooks back up with 85. A little better would to be to take a right on 585 and that would allow you skip the rather tricky actual downtown of Spartanburg.
I know this doesn't take you off 85 entirely but the rest isn't so bad. I haven't been north but I sure have been all the way south. What you want to avoid is from the state line to Spartanburg. That stretch has been under construction for years and it can be truly awful. You are very right to want to avoid it. My wife's work is right through there but she only braved the interstate once. Swore never again and takes the long back road ways around every day. Once you pass Greenville's traffic it's clear sailing the rest of the way.
If you just don't want to be on it at all I don't have a great suggestion. I-40 to 1-26 in Asheville is something but I literally just went that way this weekend in a car and recall being very glad I wasn't in the RV.

We used to live in Concord, NC & frequently went down to the state parks on Lake Hartwell. The stretch of I-85 from Charlotte to Greenville is brutal. I've also used Hwy 64 & Hwy 29 by car. Hate to say this, but, you will probably be better off taking I-85. We roll with a 40' diesel pusher towing a Jeep Cherokee. I absolutely would not try Hwy 64 with my setup.

I travel why 64 from middle Tennessee through Murphy and Cherokee NC every year for the last 5 years going to see the races in Charlotte NC. Beautiful drive and not bad. Plenty of RV parks to stop at. I traveled several times with my 34ft MH and now with my 34ft bumper pull travel trailer. I’ve never really had a problem with Hwy 64 and prefer going that way then going on the interstate which would be faster, but not as scenic. If your looking just to get from point A to point B then take the interstate, but if you are taking your time, Hwy 64 is not bad.
