Sink Odor

2023 Phaeton 40IH. Rotten eggs odor coming from the two sinks in the rear bath. I’m sure there is some kind of check valve in the drain line? Or, maybe not enough water in the P-traps? Only the rear sinks~ no odor in the half-bath, shower or kitchen. Thoughts? TIA

Sounds like dry P trap or other device to keep tank fumes out of living area. We run sinks shower every couple of weeks when in extended storage

Like Joe says, it’s critical to keep water in those traps for ALL drains!

I discuss this in my videos regarding “how to store”, and “hot weather storage”. My little secret…if you will…is to place a silicone stopper over each drain after running water into them. Really helps with evaporation.

This is also why I am a firm believer in using the West Marine ExterminOdor tank treatment EVERY time I have water in my waste tank…which is all the time. I purposely keep around 10% during storage, with a healthy dose of treatment because the stuff actually smells GOOD and always punches through any odor no matter what.

I don't use tank treatments, my opinion is they're gimmicks, that's just me. At times I'll put liquid cascade in the tanks and let them soak near full to give them a good cleaning. Otherwise the odor issue is as mentioned, dry p-traps. If you have a washing machine, it could be there too, anything that has plumbing try to keep cycled.

Neal, I think we agree…in terms of “what” they do to solids. I’ve watched all the dog food tests……and not sure there’s a “clear” winner!

I used to use the enzyme called DigestIt. Didn’t feel it did what I want, which was deodorize. Then, my sailboat racing buddy turned me onto the west Marine stuff. He said there are two things a pro sail-racer knows how to handle…batteries and waste management! Lol

So, with that…he’s right. The stuff smells SO good, I actually like the smell that it produces even when my coach is coiled up in the bay on a nice, toasty, 110° day.
