Have a sliding hitch that I have never changed position on. My fifth wheel has a snorkel so never needed it moved. Recently added a carport for our 28 door Cougar. Have issues making quick enough turns to easily back in to the carport. If I slide the hitch to the rear position will I get a somewhat more responsive turn as the kingpin will be closer to the back bumper. With a conventional TT this seems to be true.
 
It may help. I wouldn't count on it though. I suggest you try it and give us your opinion.
