Hmmm, safety devices fail, and in today's world, with quality taking a back seat to quantity, I would not bet my life or my loved one's lives on those devices to work as planned, that they should is not the question. We sold our RV, we loved the Splendide units much better than the Kenmore stacked unit in our first coach, and the disaster of the whirlpool units some fellow owners have to deal with. Your comments are correct, but I can take a nice walk around the park, and once done, my clothes are as well.
As example, you can get a chip, which plugs into the diagnostic port on many RV's and Diesel Trucks, which modifies the computer and gives you way more engine HP and Torque, but I personally would not do it. Why?
First, the computer tracks and stores all updates/modifications to it, from any source, and if you take vehicle to dealer complaining of issues, they run the diagnostics download all the history on the computer. Once they see you have plugged in that "chip" they void your warranty and can refuse to work on it in the future, you have illegally modified their programing. I choose to live with maybe less HP/Torque but have the 150K warranty and the time limit on my side, others choose to not do so. Maybe you won't need service, and maybe you will, life at best is a crap shoot, and I generally never win playing craps.
As ASIDE, I have seen reports of shortages of DEF here on this forum, and on other news sources. I cannot tell you if that is true, but yesterday, Home Depot in NE GA has a ton of the blue brand for 16 dollars for 2.5 gallons. My friend in TX says, he has no trouble finding it regardless of where he travels, so I am not sure the "rumors are true".
I sure am glad we sold ours, because 5.49 locally for Diesel, and well over 7.00 gallon out west would kill any and all enjoyment we used to have. The death spiral of RV industry is fast approaching, so I can maybe get my quality used airstream trailer for short local excursions cheap, as soon, prices on all RV's are going to crash. Just like in 08-11.
