They are last to the table but apparently an EV half ton Dodge Ram is on its way in 2024.

Actually I think that by letting almost everyone else go first in the attempt to create an electric vehicle, Stellantis actually has an advantage! They don't have to make the same EXPENSIVE mistakes that everyone else did. They should save hundreds of millions of dollars by doing it this way. Battery technology alone has grown by leaps and bounds over the first batteries that Elon Musk was using 10-15 years ago. They are MUCH less expensive and much more durable now than they were.

LOL. TOO funny.

I think being late to the show might be a challenge for battery supply though. Some companies are having problems getting price competitive batteries compared to the early movers.

Looking at the proposed specs though. I agree with the author. 150 KW charging rate is sloooooooowwwwww. Like rotary dial slow. The market leaders are already at 250 kw and some are knocking on 350 kw barrier. They will probably up their numbers by the time it’s released. Otherwise they will immediately be on the bottom of the heap.
 
Holy cow. And it looks like dodge is throwing in the towel on ICE muscle cars. Charger and challenger to be electric.

 
Have you seen the performance specs on a well-engineered electric ”muscle car?” They can blow the doors off of a lot of the conventional competition.

Yah for sure. My wife drives one of the slower Tesla sedan models. Hers is a pokey zero to sixty in 3.7 seconds. LOL. It is way fun.

I have a friend that built an electric VW bug “muscle car” nearly 20 years ago. It would eat Corvette’s alive…in a straight line. ;)

Yep. Crazy amounts of torque. It will be interesting to see the various truck manufacturers evolve into this market space. I think the first Rivian half tons get delivered to customers this month. Looking forward to a test drive.
 
25 years ago I got to drive the first battery powered International delivery truck at the test track at the International Truck Engineering Center in Ft. Wayne Indiana.. It was 33,000 GVW with a 24' dry freight body and lift gate on it. They had 10,000 lbs of cargo inside the box. The truck still had the smallest diesel engine they had available in it. It was a 7.3L T444E (Powerstroke). The engine was only used to charge the batteries and never went above idle the whole time we were there. The batteries were HUGE!!!! They took up the whole frame rail under the 24' box. And you can imagine how heavy those first batteries were!! They were like what you'd see in a fork lift. It takes a crane to pick them up to swap them out. The truck drove just like a golf cart. You pushed down the gas pedal and there was a momentary lag and then you were pushed back in your seat like it was powered by a rocket!! No diesel engine ever felt that good! This was the first attempts at a battery powered truck. And it was a long time ago. But I was impressed. I'm actually surprised that they never brought any battery powered electric delivery truck to market yet.

I think there are some but they are primarily used in dock yards etc.

Electric buses and school are becoming the norm though. Even our little town got two electric school buses last month. I think the plan is to change them out as they become due.
