I also research. I have also worked the trades and know what really goes on. I also have a SIL from China so I am well versed in Visas and citizenship. Maybe you should seek other sources.
Oh Chinah makes you an expert. I do not get bottle fed what to believe. I am not sure your connections to the current work force or your real experience. But having owned a few companies in SoCal, my building a super structure in NY and my deep connections to the trades. I think I am qualified to speak to it. I also read what the local Florida farmers, like the rest of the US farmers are saying, they have no one to pick there crops. Many wasted in the field last year, not to mention the loss of worldwide crop sales.
So, I do not need a new source, some need to some listening to the talking heads and cross reference what you are believing

On jobsites, we'd sometimes stop working as what happens is the 'other people' watch how you do things. Some builders will hire skilled american tradesmen to do something...and have his illegals watch how they do it. Then a job or two, a house or two later, he no longer has a need for you as "his guys will do it".

Skills and knowledge has also been transferred to non americans. And americans have no one to blame for that but themselves.
Real world experience? Half of my crew was american and half hispanic. All legal. The hispanics out worked and out thought the younger americans. They did not look at their phones every two minutes, showed up on time and worked. The older americans where the same. The problem is you all coddled your kids way too much to the point of laziness or entitlement

There’s not one cognizant or manual hands on skill on this planet that a Mexican American or Mexican National or any other ethnicity can’t do just as well as any European American. You should get out and travel more. I don’t think they exported Americans to build the roads and bridges and homes and cathedrals and mosques in all those other countries.

If this was addressed to me, you won't get any argument from me.

Disagree. There are cultural differences which lead to different dispositions and capacities...and training and education.
If person x gets training, certainly they should be able to do a task provided they have the intellectual and/or physical ability to do it.
But some cultures have people who start further ahead than others, so they have an advantage.
Also, different cultures have different values. One of the problems with mexicans is they place great value on families and traditional values. So they will more readily place family over work. The usa, not so much.

Also a lot of the work is becoming more technical. Some cultures don't value education as much as others. In mexico, a lot of the political messages in pamphlets were in cartoon form. Why? Because of their high illiteracy rate. The usa tho is catching up to them in that regard....

Bingo

Cool heads, a desire to work, can accomplish magnificent things!

My years as an apprentice in the electrical trades, standard practice was (1) journeyman with (5) apprentices.

The journeyman knew as the job wound down they would be the first on the bench. That one fact answers the quality questions across our nation!

Companies don't set a bunch of apprentices loose on a job site.

Just because the apprentice can't speak English doesn't make him less capable. It only means the journeyman must speak spanish.

Business, as it is currently structured, has growing to do. That is From top to bottom! All levels! No one on any level will define a problem, if the finger points at them. That is unless they are one of the few quality people left in this country.

I am not insinuating anything, its factual. An insinuation is not necessarily fact. Its a fact that many skilled workers and migrant farm workers, ones that have been legal were sent back. I call it as it is, not what I am told it is. I research.
I disagree, and I was a custom builder myself. I do not see the skill in any of the illegal/legal? workers in this region. Where would they learn it? They don't build like this in South A and there is no supervision that I have seen. Now roofing, they can do roofing but it used to be the joke that the roofing crew was the roughest most toothless bunch on a job. The houses here are so bad even the people that don't know anything are noticing. Windows that won't open, light switches on the wrong side of the door, big curves in headers and trim, etc. And the houses are not cheap for that quality. Just yesterday a guy was on the news suing a roofing company because they did not use flashing, just caulked it to the sidewall. I went out to look at deck today on a $750,000+ house and I refused to "patch" it up because it was so amateurish in design and execution. Not adding my name to that abortion. This same house had been resided with Hardi siding and it all stopped 1/4 or more inches from the corner boards and had been caulked in......horrible.
I would guess there are some good ones (contractors/craftsmen) somewhere here but they are hiding.
On my friends house, they could not read the prints or didn't care so the just used what was closest for the big carrying beams. When I looked at the print there were several that were wrong. They don't care.

LMAO stereotype much? My framers work was like a furniture joint. Who trained them, My lead carpenter and myself. Who knew what kind of quality I expected, each and everyone of them.
How someone could paint a broad brush and claim someone is not skilled because they come from another country shows who they are.
