This is an interesting issue. The door stairs do not operate when the door is unlocked with combination but will work normally when door is unlocked with remote?

Thoughts?

When unlocked via combo do the stairs extend when door is opened?

I didn't realize Trimark has anything to do with the steps. Obviously I don't know the architecture of all Newmar coaches. Are you sure this isn't just a coincidence? Troubleshoot why steps don't open first and that could help resolve it. Typically issues are the contacts on the lower inside door frame may be dirty preventing a bad connection. I don't know your step brand but Kwikee steps are known for bad grounds or controllers.

I agree, the trimark is not part of the sequence.

The contractors on the door open the relay that triggers steps.

Things to check:
1) faulty switch above driver
2) faulty relay
3) dirty contractors. Clean with wire brush and lube if they don’t spring out quickly
4) loose ground at step motor
5) faulty step motor. Intermittent

You can open and close door to cycle test for repeatability without using the lock.

When door is unlocked with the Combo and door is opened the steps do not extend. However, if I use the remote to unlock the door the steps extend when the door is opened.

What does your Newmar service rep have to say about this? After the first response "This is the first we've heard of this..."

Was the combo lock stock, i.e. original to the vehicle?

Knowing you have the wheel chair floor plan, I wonder if this is a safety feature or something considered due to the wheel chair setup?

From Gemini: The keypad is most likely not sending the "step activation" pulse to the step controller. Also try toggling the step control switch ( lockout), sometimes the lockout will respect the master override from the remote while the keypad function will not.
Try entering the 5 digit combination and then within 5 seconds press the 1 or 2 button ( depending on the tri-mark model). On many systems the 5 digit combination arms the keypad and the subsequent button press tells it what to unlock. If you only enter the 5 digits the stairs may not be receiving the trigger.
At the end of the day the issue is likely programming ( unlikely to be anything physical ( other than possibly the lockout) otherwise the steps would not deploy at all) and Tri-Mark the maker of the system may be better able to decipher that problem.

Newmar Service Rep after consultation with Lippert, steered me to Trimark, the marker of the Handle mounted on the Dutchstar. The thought is that the signal to the steps from the handle has been interrupted somehow. Relay or broken wire possibly.
The arm rest near passenger seat should provide access to that area to check. We will see.
