May want to consider steel instead of wood.
Yeah, but Trish doesn't want steel. I looked at some pictures that my neighbor sent, and it appears the wind just went up under the structure and lifted it up and over. It actually looks like the 6X6's were pulled loose from the concrete pilings. I'll know more when I get home.

Just for the record, I didn't build this. One of the builders in town did. I won't get up on something that high off the ground anymore!

Yes, after $2,500 deductible. Not sure about the BBQ, but I think so. Sure hope so anyway. Not the end of the world either way. :)
If your BBQ is more than $2500, you're sure dedicated.

lol, yes I guess I would be! But no, it was a fraction of that. I just really liked it and as difficult as it was to assemble, I sure won't do it again. So if I go home and find it's now a twisted piece of junk, I'll have to bury it and move on.

These days, there are better smokers, for far less money. @GlampDaddy has a basement full of them. :)

Around here, (and we don't get big wind) a structure like that would require 6 foot holes and concrete around the posts. And likely 8x8 posts if not getting siding.
There is little to zero uplift with post brackets. I'm also glad your coach wasn't in it.

Yep, you are 100% correct. I'm discussing this with the contractor right now. Doubt it's going to do me any good, but we'll see.

We could have a smoker put-together party in a few weeks. Just give a bunch of Texans a glass or two of whisky and a promise of good barbeque and we'll have that smoker smoking in two shakes.

You sure he has enough whisky to keep those Texans entertained for 18 hours while the barbeque smokes?

This pretty much sums up my day. I'm still in Florida, but my friends sent me a picture of what used to be my RV barn in NC. Only good thing I can say is at least my rig wasn't in it.

Was one heck of a storm I guess.

What about the rest of your RV Park ?

If you are in the mood for a drive to the Palmetto / Bradenton area, I have a suitcase Traeger I’m getting rid of.

All yours if you want to come visit 😊

There is a cost to look good!

@Neal is having a sale on slightly used from his graveyard of smokers and if you play your cards right he might throw in a kayak with the purchase.

Oh man, Dennis! That is such an outstanding and thoughtful offer, and I really do appreciate it. I'm sure you will find a use for it, maybe as a backup or something. I'm back in NC as of about an hour ago, and although it's a little early to tell, I think my smoker "may" have survived! The legs are a big strange looking, lol, but I can straighten them out. It's the firebox and other parts that are of concern. And I won't know about them until I get a ton of roofing material off of it!

Again, thank you so much for your generous offer.

Jim

What about the rest of your RV Park ?
The park is OK! And with all the gazebos in the park, not one of them is damaged. Even the picnic tables are in the exact same spot as when I left. So what I thinking is that a small tornado came through the area of my RV barn, and boom, that's the end of that! That consensus is supported by the number of trees that are down in that area as well. So I guess I should have had the RV barn built about 50' to the left! :)

Hey Jim, when did that storm come through? Recently?
