Any guardrail would simply be ripped off of it's mounting screws and whatever it was meant to protect would still get damaged.
My thoughts too - it would make things worse, not better, just adding to the damage. Better to just be certain you never enter a unsatisfactory clearance situation. When in doubt, find another way to get where you're going. .

This was my thought. If its lagged to the roof, it will do more damage then ripping off a plastic ac cover
 
Its always ugly - watch a couple “low bridge” videos and you’ll become quite convinced that prevention is the only answer.
 
Ah the advantage of a 5er !
