Used RV Roof Opinions

Hi Everyone,

My fiancé and I are looking at a used RV. We have thoroughly inspected everything and found no leaks/soft spots/issues but we are slightly concerned about the roof. We do not have a lot of experience with RV’s but did a lot of research and YouTube video watching before we started looking. As I said, everything looked good with the RV but there was what the owner called “splitting in the gel coating” on the roof of the RV. Owner has recently had the roof inspected at a local RV place and they told him that everything was good and nothing is leaking. We know we are going to have to re-seal the roof if we purchase but want to make sure we aren’t purchasing something that doesn’t look right to you folks with more experience than us. The RV is 6 years old and has been sealed with a roof coating. Please see the photos and let me know what you think.

It definitely needs a recoat and soon. Have you priced that work to be done locally near your home?

I'd consider walking. My trailer is a similar vintage (2018) and looks nothing like that.

I would walk too. That's a rough looking roof. I replaced the Dicor (roof caulking that's cracked in the pictures) last winter. Mine is 5yrs old next month and looks great compared to those pictures.

Use the marginal roof condition to get a discount. Then post purchase, hit it with a power washer to clean the heck out of the top and hopefully flake up that crappy coating that is on it. Then recoat, Dicor and Eternabond Tape around all fittings.
