What I really appreciate about these forums is asking questions and sharing experiences, with others.
My post about moving to another state is a perfect example how beneficial and valuable at what this type of internet site can offer.....
But on the other hand people need to be honest and open to what others share, if only wanting validation you are leaving half of the value behind.
I will give you an example of what "could" happen if you don't really take to heed the advice offered by those with experience in the matter.
I have a buddy who got into RV'ing so he and his wife could join us as well as going off on their own.
They purchased a used trailer and truck, but didn't take my advice and others, that his truck had lots of milage, was at the uppermost limit in its ability, and overpriced too.
It was a nice looking truck, but approaching 200K and no real history other than the guy on the lot said it was in perfect shape.
Well, just a few weeks after purchase, the transmission went out to a tune of 9k.
It broke down 3 of the 4 times they went with us.
On one such trip his wife texted my wife and said we needed to pull over and rest as her "husband" was getting very angry at her, as he was fighting to control his truck (we were on an interstate with big rigs, winds, etc).
Once at the camp spot for the night I knew his problem as his rear was sagging so bad that his headlights was pissing off others coming the other way, so I adjusted his hitch to put more weight to the front of an already overloaded truck.
Anyway, this tired motor had a fluid leak.
He said it was just a small one, and no big deal.
It began to smoke a little as the engine heated up.
The wife even asked if it was safe?
It smoked more, but he was thinking he would wait and save up for a new motor.
It never made it.
It caught fire and burned.
Now no truck, high milage and payment still, waiting to see what they will give him insurance wise.
Which will most likely be pretty much nothing on a 10 year old truck with 200K but was once pretty nice looking.
Talking to him now and it seems like he will repeat the same mistake again.
We can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.
Is it a guy thing, BIG egos and pride, that make it hard for us to accept honest real advice, I dunno, however I know its ignorance that helps us to reject it, sadly.
