I have a ton of things I take with me though not all at the same time. Hubby always has a hard time finding things to do. I like to travel and walk through public gardens. I like to go to zoos. I like to find spots with interesting things to see.

But My favorite thing is to travel for food. I love to go to the Williamite Vally for hazel nuts and strawberries for jam and the eastern side of Washington for peaches for jam. Etc. .... We found huckleberry stuff in Montana, though I forgot to get the high mountain flour.

I like to work on my embroidery and carry whatever I am working on with me, the same with crochet and some small handwork sewing. I like to make fairy houses and leave them hidden in the 'woods' near where maybe a kid can find them. I like to do water coloring painting (badly) so I have a boxed kit to take with us I like to take pictures but then don't do much with them. I like to find colorful rocks or something to take back to work with me for the kidos to play with. I like to kayak in quiet lakes and ride my bike around the campground.

I got hubby a metal detector but so far, he isn't really into that. We carry a slingshot kit with a target but have not used it much. We also carry a bar with us and a chess set and a deck of cards.... We find places with pool tables and places with music.
So what do you do when out and about? What do you take with you to do while sitting around at your spot? What draws you to the places you go to.

We are both in our 70s now but we still hike a bit. We use our e bikes (there are lots of ebike friendly trails around. I am a rock hound and travel with a tumbler so walking trips looking for material is high on our list. We have a Jeep so we do quite a bit of off roading mostly to see Ghost Towns and other historical sites. Wife knits in evening when we are playing crib or Yahtzee or Scrabble. We full time and move fairly often (usually every two to three weeks) so the is usually something new to see and do. I too have a metal detector but primarily use it on beaches. We have found lots of coins and jewelry but nothing very valuable but you will discover that you carry away more garbage than anything else.

We are also in our 70s. We primarily camp in public campgrounds: county, state, federal (Corp of Engineers Campgrounds (COE) are some of our favorites) as well as small town parks. My wife loves to sit and read books as well as take walks around the campgrounds and trials. We travel with two dogs. Sadie our 15.5 year old Cavalier King Charles and Lucy our Golden Retriever 4 years old. Both dogs were rescues when they were young. the dogs love to go on walks as well. We both like to bike and are looking into E-bikes. We have always been bikers and enjoy it. I spend time tinkering with our coach. I like to fish although I have not done so lately. I can tell you that when we are at a COE campgrounds on the Mississippi I love to sit and watch the barges and boat traffic on the river. We have the Senior pass and use it often. We also are long term members of Harvest Host (HH) and use it almost every trip. HH has many museums, vineyards, golf course, breweries to visit and say at.

Hummmmm I have a rock tumbler that I haven't had out in ages wonder if it is still workable.... I have been to a few museums that I love but not all of them. I want to go see a few ghost towns but haven't yet.

Come on down to Arizona next winter. Best place to find rocks and minerals as well as "real" Ghost town. There are lots of tourist attraction"" ghost towns as well. Just and FYI I am not an expert when it comes to rocks. I just pick up what catches my eye. I have to use the internet to identify them and lots of times I get them wrong. Some don't polish well but 99% do. Most I leave at RV parks we visit for others to enjoy. We full time and I don't want to pack around the extra hundred pounds of rock. There are plenty of ghost towns that you can visit without a 4X4. The one I have pictured is one that is not though. Anyway. Food for thought.

Safe travels

Darrell
