Heading out in a few days with an ambitious trip out west. We have a new to us 2018 Forester. Wondering whether the prevailing wisdom would recommend breakdown insurance, roadside assistance, and memberships such as Good Sam or Harvest Hosts. Is there value in these?

I would definitely have Road Side Assistance and make sure there is a tow clause. A Good Sam Account is worth it if you use enough GS Parks. We don't use Harvest Host so I can't help you there. I have had to have our old coach towed and I am glad I had the coverage. Having to tow a Motor Home is expensive. Does Your Forester have a Spare? Lots of Motor Homes don't so if you have a flat in the middle of no where R S is a blessing.

Welcome to RVforums from Ely, Iowa. Hope you like this site as much as I do.. We have roadside insurance through our main Nationwide policy as well as through AAA. Truly have not been too impressed with AAA. We use a host of travel apps for planning and locating fuel and camping. Harvest Host has been the best app for staying at different places along our routes. We have been member over 7 years and while the price has gone up we still very much like it. We have stayed in so many unique and places. For fuel we use Gas Buddy and Mudflap. Mudflap is for diesel fuel and you get some very large immediate discounts. For camping we use RVParky, Campendium, Allstays and a few others. We use google maps for route planning and our Garmin RV 785.

Coach Net roadside service
Good Sams is accepted at most campgrounds. Saves some on reservations.
KOA membership.
