When and where to replace

Full timer and don’t expect to be back in “home” state of Texas for about 10 months. I’m leaning towards getting a newer truck. Is there an advantage of buying somewhere else than registering in Texas after a year? Are some states cheaper or do you get caught up in more expenses due to re registering.

I can only address my local info.
As I understand it, you'll pay whatever sales tax there is where you buy the truck.
You will get credit, or pay more when you register it in your home state---Texas (however, you put that in quotes)
Unless you can prove residence in another state, you will have to register in your current state, so why go through the hassle of jockying paperwork? Just bite the bullet and replace now so you have time to break it in and iron out any bugs that are there!

Thanks. We are already out of state. We are in Florida. After March we will be traveling the east coast up to main then back down to Texas. We go back to Texas for Dr. visits, kids and grand kids.

Then, it is my opinion, to purchase a new truck within 30 days of your visit back to TX so you can register the truck and avoid the almost certain penalty for late registration.

Also, keep in mind, at least here in Indiana, you will have to have the physical truck there at registration time to be inspected if bought out of state. (YMMV)
