@No Plan, I probably have a stupid question, but I couldn't help but notice how rough the surface was when I drove on it. Is that the surface you race on, or is it smoothed somehow?
The salt is groomed for the race courses but not silky smooth however.

Can you taste it in the air?

Park Place Drive In, Marion VA. Harvest host stop on the way to and from @Deer Springs RV Park. We were there last Thurs and it happened to be a movie night. Movies are Thurs-Sun. I’m pretty sure I haven’t seen a movie in a drive-in since the early 80s. Small town America stuff right there.

No, you don’t taste the salt, but it gets all over your exposed skin.

We set a new record on the motorcycle I am Crew Chief on. We chased Gremlins for 3 days but we finally got it sorted out late yesterday afternoon and were able to get back out on the course before it was closed for the day. We set a record on that run and did our backup run early this morning. So far we have set new records on 5 of the 6 motorcycles we brought out to Bonneville. We are running the last bike this afternoon so hopefully that one will get a record as well.

It's been a great week out on the flats but I'm exhausted and it's time to get off the flats. My coach has performed well with my solar system and running the generator when we get back to camp to run the AC units and bump the batteries a bit.

Pictures from our record run this morning.

TransWest RV Campground Frederick, Colorado
Rolled into TransWest RV this afternoon for the night after a long week on the Bonneville Salt Flats. First thing in the morning I will drop my coach off to get a few piddly service items tended to. My service writer Jamie is awesome getting me in for service around my nomadic travel schedule. I truly believe that if you take care of people, and show your appreciation, they will return the same to you... ;)

After I pick up my coach in the early afternoon I will go up the road a short distance and stay at St. Vrain State Park for the week. I will spend the week hanging out with my Grandkids and friends. Then I'm off to Wyoming and South Dakota.

Santiam River, Lyons Oregon. Finally parked at our new home. Wife and I are no longer between homes. After putting our house up for sale and living in the RV for three months as we prepped, listed, and then sold it we were able to close on a gem on the river. You know you're home when there is an RV pad off the front drive and room to park even a couple of more rigs if friends want to boondock. Add a back yard that has its own pond and 175' of Santiam River access and it makes the three month wait at an RV park with barely 2' wide burnt grass strips between pads that were packed in side by side worth it. Now comes the challenge of talking the wife into jumping into the RV to leave this place. :)

Once we are settled in and unpacked I will probably create a listing on Boondockers Welcome.

Best,
-Mark

Welcome to Colorful Colorado!!! I'm curious if you travelled over I-70 to get to Breck? I apologize for our crappy road conditions... it's flat out shameful and embarrassing the road conditions on I-70...🤬

Actually we came down from Steamboat Springs and we were only on I70 for 2 miles. 😜. So those conditions were pretty good.

You obviously came in on CO-9S to I-70W... 👍 Don't know your travel plans leaving Breck but if it's I-70 East or West from there be aware the road conditions are not enjoyable... 🤬

Very good!!! I assume you were on

I thought when leaving this area we could take another road that goes away from the Eisenhower tunnel and drops you back on the hwy I thought near I25.

Well, I-70 East to I-25 South is a mess between Idaho Springs and up over Floyd Hill because of construction. Yes, the pull going East from the Dillon Basin up to the Eisenhower Tunnel is a slog. I've done it far too many times this year... 🤬 I don't know where you're heading, but CO-9S over Hoosier Pass to US Hwy-285 in Fairplay, then pick up C-470 from Hwy-285 and connect with I-25 South. This route will also avoid all the traffic on I-25 South through the Denver metroplex which is awful.

St. Vrain State Park Firestone, Colorado

I rolled up the road a short distance from my home dealer TransWest on Friday afternoon to St. Vrain State Park. A part that had been ordered came in while I was out on the Salt Flats so I got that sorted out. I've been busy doing a weeks worth of laundry and cleaning my coach... Also, multiple runs through the car wash to get the salt off my Jeep. Complete detail inside and out, as well as a polymer wax on the exterior of my Jeep, is scheduled for tomorrow morning. I will be spending as much time as I can with my Grandkids before heading off Friday morning.

When we leave here we will be going back to Texas but stopping in Amarillo first.

If you're going to Amarillo here is a route I've done from the Breckenridge area. CO-9 to Hartsel, US-24 to Colorado Springs, I-25 South to Raton, NM, in Raton take NM US-87/US-287 directly into Amarillo.

This will avoid all the frustration on I-70 and traffic on I-25 in the Denver area... (y)
